Introduction to Indian Cultural Heritage –Indian Culture and Tradition | General Awareness Series

Posted on August 14, 2019 by Lawrence Spear

Hello friends. Welcome to the Exambin’s General Awareness Learning Series. In this series of videos, we’ll be knowing the importance of culture and its brief overlook. In the first session, we’ll be knowing the gist of everything. All of these topics will be covered in the upcoming videos. Comment which one you want to see first in this series of videos. In India, more than 1.3 billion people live here. India is the land of many culture livings. The “Unity through Diversity” is the main attraction to India, by many of the foreign countries. Like the United States, India India is also a federal union, where almost all of its different states carry different languages, and different cultural identities. Indian civilization is very ancient. The Indus Valley Civilization was one of the first civilizations on Earth. The Vedic period was a time in Indian history when the Hindu religion and caste system began in India. Mughal Empire was the last and the strongest Islamic empire in India. So because of this “Unity through Diversity” and different cultural identity, India is known as the subcontinent within the Asian continent. So here we see Indian people: people with different clothing, people with different religions, people with different food habits, people with different celebrations, people living in different localities like urban, suburban, and rural. So this is how people all care or live in different localities. So India is also mainly classified into four major sections; four major parts. The one is North India, with the major city in North India is New Dehli. And Eastern India. The metropolitan city in Eastern India is Kolkata. Western India, Mumbai is the metropolitan city in Western India. And South India, Chennai, Chennai is the metropolitan city. Indian people across the nation eat different foods, as per their geographical availability. Like North Indian people prefer to eat wheat and all, and South Indian foods always carry rice. So all of the Indian vegetables that are available, people take seafood, meat also taken by people, but however, cows are considered sacred by Hindus, many of whom are vegetarians. So all over India, you can see marsala spices, and people drinking tea and coffee. And next we will see about religion. Religion in India is characterized by a diversity of religious beliefs and practices. The Indian subcontinent is the birthplace of four of the world’s major religions. Namely, Hinduism Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism. With the people coming and settling from foreign India also now includes majority of the people living in India following Christianity and Islam also. Next, we will see some facts about Indian important historical monuments. India’s home to many historical monuments, from moguls and the Sultan Indian Kings and prior to that, those Hindu kings have built so many monuments across India. The important ones to mention are Taj Mahal, Brihadishwara Temple in Thanjavur, Mysore Palace, Harmandir Sahib, Ajanta Ellora Caves, Mahabalipuram, Khajuraho, and the list is a long one. We will see all about these in a separate video. Next comes is music. Traditional Music of India. Hindustani and Carnatic are popularly known traditional music of India. Hindustani means “classical music of North India.” Carnatic means “classical music of South India.” Melody, drone, and thala are some of the traditional elements of Indian music. String, wind, and percussion are some of the most commonly used instruments in Indian music. Next comes is dances. Traditional dances of India. Dance is an ancient and celebrated cultural tradition in India. Folk dances are found all across the country, and huge crowds of people can be found dancing at festivals and weddings. Dance and song is found heavily in India cinema also. So you can see them in Hollywood, Bollywood, and everything you see songs that feature dances. Indian dance draws its roots from six of the most important classical dance forms. They are Bharatanatyam, Kathakali, Katak, Manipuri, Kuchipudi, and Odissi. Again, we will see all about these things in a separate video. There are many, many other cultural traditions that exist in India, that everyone should know. Especially those who are preparing to complete your examinations. We’ll be visiting these in all of our upcoming videos. Comment your favorite topic on all these things, say that you want “dance” as a first video, or you want cultural traditions like music, or historic monuments as the first video, different kind of foods, there are many, many topics coming in the series. Hit the “subscribe”button to get the latest update from Exambin channel. Goodbye.

India has one of the most developed culture in the world. Their social issues are based off poverty, but their culture has etiquette, one of the old music notation ecc….It's because of European colonialisation that Countries in Asia became 'under developed'. there are many wealthy countries in Europe that have an under developed culture.

Your facts are okay. Your English language pronunciation and fluency is unpleasant. Do not try the American accent. Try standard Indian ascent. It will normalize some what and no hiccups please. Again, your facts are acceptable.

After watching this video again and reviewing my previous posts and comments I realize my focus was in wrong area. I work with people from India and many times I hear white American customers complain to me, "I just can't understand what they are saying". When I hear this, I think it because word meanings and sentence structures are misused. I not think as much about how the words are pronounced or "sound". I believe it is responsibility of learner to learn and properly use the language of the culture they communicate with — I believe it is responsibility of all people to understand fact that language "sounds" very different across the world. Language can be understood purely through study, but sounds and pronunciation can involve very complex combinations of muscle movement of the throat, jaws, lips, tongue, and even breath control.

India is nice but not the centre of the world 😂
