Hi, I’m Dr. Newton Miller, a faculty member
with Ashford University’s College of Education. Students graduate from Ashford’s Bachelor
of Arts in English Language Learner Studies program with the tools they need to prepare
to teach in today’s culturally and linguistically diverse classrooms.
Many of the faculty members in this program are master practitioners, having taught for
5 or more years in K-12 schools. Their hands-on experience teaching in diverse classrooms
helps students apply theory to real-world scenarios.
Among some of my favorite courses in this program are Understanding & Teaching English
Language; Methods, Materials & Technology for Learning a Second Language; and Language
Learning in a Global Context. As an instructor in this program, I take great
pride knowing that every one of our graduates is equipped with knowledge of best practices
in instruction for all populations that they might serve.
