Welcome to Distance and Online Education at the University of Iowa, University College. There are many services available to you when offering an online course with Distance and Online Education. When your college or department approves the offering of an online course, the support begins. A team approach is used to provide services. Your support begins with the Course Support Coordinator. The Support Coordinator is you main contact throughout the development process and while the course is being offered. They act as your liaison for all things distance and online education related. During the development stage you will work closely with a Lead Instructional Designer. The Instructional Designer will provide accessible templates for your syllabus and Canvas course site. With extensive experience in online education the Designers will consult on pedagogical issues and best practices. You will also have access to a team of media production professionals. They will work with you to put the technology in place to capture your course content in an effective and dynamic manner. Another team member is the Distance Education Librarian. They can assist you to identify and incorporate library resources into your course. The goal of Distance and Online Education is to provide professional consultation and support your online course needs. We look forward to working with you at distance and online education.
