Hi everyone. Andy Davis here again from
Master of Voice, a channel with reactions to performers from across the world. In
today’s episode, by request from so many of you, I’m eager and excited to react to
Joan Sebastien as he performs “Eso y Mas”. Let’s jump right in. I love this already. Playing the guitar for himself. Starting
off this story speaking it which i think is so cool especially for a
singer-songwriter like him. I have read a bit about his history. I know the
legendary status such a decorated singer-songwriter and I’m impressed. I
love the fact that he’s starting this off by speaking the beginning lyrics and,
speaking of those lyrics, let’s dive into a rough translation in English, “That and
more. They told me about Romeo and Juliet and I thought ‘What a beautiful story!’ and
now it turns out that this is more great. That this is more beautiful. This, this
feeling I have for you.” What a great start. Let’s jump back in. Wow! I love his singing voice. This song has
given me a little feel of maybe Country and Western ballad – just really a
nice down-to-earth song with beautiful lyrics by this awesome singer-songwriter.
The lyrics continue on, “I would cross the mountains, the rivers, and the valleys to
find you. I would brave storms, cyclones, dragons – without exaggeration – in order to
see myself in your beautiful eyes and live with the glory of being at your
side. Because I feel I need you, that I have fallen in love. Wow. I really like when he opens up there
into that wider, longer held note. But, to me, his voice is just so nicely connected
from note to note just telling this story. You can tell he has great breath
control especially when he lets those wider vowel, longer held notes go there.
And, I’ve explained before that I’m so impressed when people can play for
themselves and sing at the same time. you know I’ve read that he wrote over a
thousand songs, he has Grammys, Latin Grammy Awards,
you know, Hall of Fame, was recognized as songwriter of the year many times and
it’s just so impressive to have such a great musical talent like this. And, of
course, he did pass away a few years ago and I know that his fans and the nation
and the region and the world mourn the passing of such a great musical artist. This song is beautiful. Let’s continue on
with the lyrics, “in order to see myself in your beautiful eyes and live with the
glory of being at your side because I feel I need you. That and more I would do.”
Then it continues on, “To ensure that your soul smiles, searching for equity I could
pawn the most valuable thing I own which is my liberty and it would be an honor,
my love, to be your slave. I would be your toy by my own will and if, one glorious
day, I end up in your arms, what happiness.” And, then it goes on to repeat just a bit.
Such beautiful lyrics and a beautifully performed song by a legend. Mmm, that little bit of a… Wow! So beautifully done. What a gorgeous song.
I really enjoyed that. At the end of one of the phrases, I almost spoke but I
didn’t want to interrupt the the musical line there. He gave that little
bit of a crack or “call” at the end of one of those phrases. So signature to so many
Latin music stars and he performed this so well. I’m so eager now to see so many
other performances by him and feel free to leave me links to those down below in
the comments. I prefer to react to live versions of him singing. So, leave me
those – some of your favorites – and we’ll get to them in the future. Such a legend.
